Surfing in Faro

You gotta catch a wave? Faro is far out the best place for surfing! Seducing country of Portugal is a year-round destination for surfers and a wonderful escape from the icy winter. Pleasant water temperatures in winter and waves throughout the whole year make Faro one of the top surfing places in Europe. We suggest you hire a car and explore all the locations in the Algarve region to find the one that suits you best. Now that “everybody’s gone surfing”, so should you!

5 of Faro’s best surfing spots

Being a beginner or a “Barney” :) we recommend you visit Praia de Faro. Don’t have any fear to fall off a surfboard, since the waves are not huge. If you don’t trust yourself or your knowledge you can always go to the surf school.
Surf Spot Characteristics:

  • Direction: right and left,
  • Bottom: sandy
Another excellent spot for beginners is Amado beach. Best time to visit this place is from October-February, and you can even take surf lessons at the Amado Surfcamp.

Beliche is a beach for more advanced surfers since the waves can be rough. Out of the peak season, the beach is almost empty.

Tonel is a super beach for beginners or those in between. Best time for surfing is in winter. But even in summer, it is not too crowded here.

Zavial is another surfing spot for intermediates. It is a great spot to be a “Hodad”, too:) Chilling and relaxing on the beach is another great decision. Just take it easy, dude. :)
