The Mallorca Airport dates back to the 1920s with seaplanes used for Balearic Island post service. The first commercial flights were established by Iberia and Deutsche Lufthansa in 1938. The first asphalted runway and other airport facilities built in 1954 made Palma de Mallorca Airport capable of serving more airlines and different types of aircraft. A few years later, a new terminal building was constructed and in 1962, Mallorca Airport reached one million passengers. Since then, more expansion projects were carried out, including two terminal buildings and a new runway.
