Public holidays in Braga: New Year's Day falls on the first of January with Carnival day arriving on the 5th of March. After this, Shrove Tuesday was on the 19th April, Good Friday the 19th and Easter the 21st. Freedom Day is the 25th April and Labour Day is the 1st May. Portugal Day is the 10th June, Corpus Christi the 20th June, the Feast of Assumption is the 15th August and then Republic Day is on the 5th October. Teacher's Day falls on the same day. Portugal Restoration of Independence Day is the 1st December and the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is the 8th December. Christmas Day is on the 25th as usual.

Driving in Braga

  • Children in the car: Children under 12 years of age or less than 135cm tall must use an approved restraint system. Ask your car hire Braga firm to supply you with one if you need it.
  • Driving side of the road: Driving is on the right-hand side of the road in Braga, overtaking happens on the left.
  • Lights: Headlights should always be dipped as you go through tunnels. You should not drive with your interior lights on inside your vehicle.
  • General speed limits: The open road allows up to 100 km/h while the motorway allows 120 km/h. Stick below 50 km/h in urban areas.
  • Parking suggestions: Blue Zone parking exists in all Portuguese cities and towns. If you can find a blue zone you can park free of charge. You must display a parking disk to do this, which you can pick up from the police station. It is possible that your car hire firm in Braga have already provided you with one of these disks.
