The present air terminal was completed in 29 months and inaugurated in 1992. Malta International Airport started operating fully back in March 1992, and the old terminal was closed after 35 years in operation. Passenger numbers through Malta International Airport have been registering year-on-year growth for these past eight years, and currently the terminal hosts more than six million passengers annually.
