History of Catania Airport

Catania airport first started in 1924. The airport was seized during the World War II, when it became a military airfield. In 2007, a new terminal with 22 gates and 6 loading bridges was opened. The next ten years involved construction of a nice restaurant, new runway, and extended office space. In 2014, Air One put an end to its operation at Catania airport. Catania airport continued to expand after 2000s, and in 2016 it was identified as the busiest airport in Sicily while the 6th busiest airport in Italy.
