History of Olbia Airport

In 1921, a military airfield was opened in Olbia where inauguration of a seaplane base also took place. In 1963, commercial flights returned to Olbia. The airport was renamed to Meridiana in 1991. Major reconstruction took place in 2004. The airport was renamed later to Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, and it is the primary operating base for Meridiana airline.
