Brussels Christmas Markets 2018

Winter is such a magical season for so many reasons. The cold weather alone is responsible for sweaters, campfires, hot chocolate, and cozying up at home (which we can hardly complain about.) On top of this, winter hosts one of the best holidays of the entire year – Christmas! Families and friends across the world get together to exchange gifts and enjoy the festivities.

But we all know that Christmas is about so much more than presents. It’s about the experience – Christmas lights and decorating, friends, family, traditions, shopping, and most of all spreading joy!

All right. We know. That’s getting to sound a bit cliché, but it’s the truth. If you’re looking for a truly “joyful” experience this year, we suggest that you get out of the house a bit for the winter season to go enjoy some incredible events at the Brussels Christmas Markets.

Brussels Christmas Markets

The Brussels Christmas Markets occur annually during the winter months leading up to the holiday. They open up in the middle of November and go until the beginning of January. The best part? Brussels hosts multiple markets so you, your friends, and family can enjoy a variety of Christmas events. Here’s what you can expect at each of the most popular Brussels Christmas Markets this year:

Winter Wonders Christmas Market in Bruxelles

What don’t they have here? The Winter Wonders Christmas Market hosted in Bruxelles is home to some of the best mulled wine and incredible European foods. The market is huge, with amazing sightseeing opportunities on every corner. The market hosts live Christmas and music performances for those who are looking to attend an event. The merchandise tables are full of unique Christmas-related souvenirs and gifts, which are perfect for those Christmas-shopping-procrastinators. But the best part about this Christmas Market, in particular, is the ice rink. Enjoy yourself, but be careful! You don’t want to put an arm-cast on your Santa-wish-list this year.

Castle Karreveld Christmas Market

This one is for all you artists and art-enthusiasts out there. The Castle Karreveld Christmas Market hosts the work of some of the greatest artists and craftsmen in the country. It is located (as you may have guessed) in the Karreveld Castle. This castle was actually recently renovated, making it a beautiful location for festive celebrations. Hop on over this year to see the place all decked out with holiday décor, merch, and amazing works of art!

Anderlecht Christmas Market

All you families out there – this is the Christmas Market for you. The Anderlecht Christmas Market is famously recognized for their amazing Christmas plays and live entertainment. Santa Claus himself comes for the grand opening of the market. There are plays going on every day at the Collegial Church of Saint Peter and Saint Guido. This makes it a prime option for families traveling with young children.

But on top of all this, the Anderlecht Christmas Market is also great for food-enthusiasts (who isn’t a food enthusiast?) You’ll find great holiday-related treats and desserts, as well as amazing Belgium-inspired dishes throughout the entire market. As always, there are more merchandising stands than you’ll have time to visit. Bring some extra cash and buy some trinkets!

Finding a Car Hire

If you are traveling to Brussels, Belgium for the first time, we understand that it can be difficult to get around the city. We highly recommend that you get a car hire for your trip to make all the transportation easier! You can find great options within your budget here.

Conclusion

What are you waiting for? Christmas season is coming fast, and Brussels has all the festivities and celebrations you’d ever want. Pay a visit to the Castle Karreveld Christmas Market to see some incredible art. For those with children, we recommend checking out the Anderlecht Christmas Market, as they host a variety of plays and live entertainment throughout the day that will keep families and personnel of any age entertained.
