Top 8 places to visit in April
So, where shall we go this April? The list is enormous, but here are our top destinations to make a list more transparent:
1. Portugal – Road trip from Faro to Lisbon
Winter was flushed away by that mighty ray of sunshine. The birds are singing again, the weather is clear, and it's time for a getaway. The best advice we can give you is to take a road trip along the coast of Portugal this April. Why? Because the coastline of Portugal is amazing, the sunsets are stunning, and its cuisine is super tasty. Explore the Algarve region. Beaches of Algarve are pure magic. Here you can read all about the road trip from Faro to Lisbon.
2. Spain – Road trip from Malaga to Barcelona
Hire a car in Malaga and drive along the coast. April is the month for a road trip, there are no crowds, it's warm, and Spain in one of the most charming countries in the world. Stops in Valencia and Granada are a must. Valencia's pride are definitely its futuristic buildings designed by Santiago Calatrava, museums, and old quarters. Granada, the city of Grafitti, offers monumental churches, old-school tapas bars, and views of Sierra Nevada peaks. If you're up for a road trip from Barcelona to Madrid, you can read on all the details here.
3. Orlando, Florida – Orlando is one big theme park
Whether you're travelling with children or you're a big kid trapped in an adult's body, Orlando is fun, fun, fun. There's an incredible mix of fun things to do here. You can visit theme parks: Disney's Magic Kingdom, Universal Island of Adventure, Disney's Hollywood Studio, Legoland, or Discovery Cove. It's a place known for hospitality, which extends to its world-famous restaurants, hotels, and spas. And there's shopping. Orlando is a shopping paradise. For some outlet action, visit Orlando Premium Outlets at International Drive. For more high-end shopping check out the Mall at Millenia. There are no limits in Orlando.
4. California (LA) – Is Venice Beach, and Rodeo Drive, Hollywood and celebrity spotting
The city of Angels is a truly seductive city. It can be progressive or trendy, laid back or retro, neighborhoods here are so different, you'll surely find one that suits your taste. The streets are full of friendly and open-minded people, and the LA bars&restaurants are everything you can wish and hope for. If you like them hidden, there is the £10 Bar, if you like them hot&trendy you mustn't miss the Elephante in Santa Monica if you wish for a friendly restaurant to have a vegan dinner, check out the Cafe Gratitude. Here you can read more about the best American road trip.
5. Cyprus (Paphos) – When Greek and Turkish culture mix you get Cyprus
You're considering Cyprus because of its beaches, possible scuba diving or surfing (which is best in April due to the wind). But its the differences and similarities between the two cultures (Greek&Turkish) that make this island unique. Cyprus's archeological collection is stunning: In Nicosia, you have Cyprus Museum, 11 miles from Limassol you'll find ancient Kourion (curium), or for sampling some great wines you can head to the hills of Limassol district.
6. Sicily (Catania) - Is history in a pocket
Now that you are ready to embrace all that glorious sun, and leave the grey skies behind, here comes Sicily with its beaches, agriturismo, and blue skies. But it's not just scenic attractions and mafia that make Sicily famous. There's also history&culture. Visit the Temples at Agrigento or the Norman basilica at Monreale. Don't forget to take your hired car on a ride and head to the hills – must see are the towns of Modica, Ragusa, and Ortega. But the best of the best is still the Sicilian cuisine: Hire a car and drive to Menfi, a seaside restaurant which specializes in pasta and seafood.
7. Crete (Heraklion) – Feast for the senses
The beauty of Crete lies in its small villages and beaches. If you plan to see most of the island, the best option is to rent a car in Heraklion. It's easier and quicker than public transport. If you hire a car in Heraklion it will take you only 5 minutes to get to Knossos, presumably the oldest European city. Those of you who are travelling with children won't have any troubles keeping your little ones occupied since Crete is designed for kids. When you get hungry, stop at the Paralia Seaside Restaurant and order Moussaka.
8. Mallorca – Paradise for snorkelers
The best time to visit Mallorca is in spring, it's less crowded, and temperatures are perfect for children and outdoor activities. Majorca is famous for its sandy beaches with crystal clear waters (due to an alga that oxygenates water), but there's a lot more to Majorca than just beach hopping. If you hire a car Cala de Sa Calobra & Cala Tuent, a spectacular serpentine road is a must. Another sight is the majestic Catedral de Mallorca, but it's not just the facade, it's the cathedral's interior that will surely fascinate you because it was designed by no one else but the master Gaudi. Hungry? We suggest you visit the fishermen at the Kingfisher Restaurant. They serve the best Fish Burgers in the world.
