Best Mediterranean Scenic Roads

For that reason, the most beautiful Mediterranean scenic roads are ideal for enjoying a ride in a good car that gives you a chance to visit interesting places, sights and stop on every beautiful beach. Most scenic roads are located right next to the seaside, in some cases only steps away from the water or above, usually on a cliff, a bridge that offers excellent panoramic views. One of the most interesting parts, which can be a real challenge for a driver but still easy to pass, are usually between hills or mountains where the road winds up through the peaks, and the curves seem to hang in the air. Driving around bends, under the tunnels, between the passageways is something that needs to be experienced.

1. Carretera de Sa Calobra – Mallorca, Spain

Stunning scenic road in zig-zag style begins at the turnout from the Ma-10 regional road and goes through the unspoiled hilly area all the way to Port de Sa Calobra. This road, which is remoted from cities and villages, offers a stunning mountain curve ride with many panoramic spots and natural parks. Its length is 36 kilometres.

2. Carretera a Sant Feliu – Barcelona, Spain

One of the best panoramic Spanish coastal roads climbs over cliffs above the sea, north of Barcelona. The road leads from Tossa de Mar to Sant Feliu Guixols and measures 21 km in length. The GI-682 is great for the perfect trip with a rented car and the best way to escape from the city in a wonderful scenic environment.

3. Amalfi Coast – Campania, Italy

It is considered to be the most beautiful Italian coastal road. It begins in Amalfi, the province of Campania and leads to Salerno and the most popular part between these two cities is about 15 km. Its magnificent bends over the sea and the picturesque surrounding cities, flowers, beaches, rock bridges and cute narrow passages offer a truly unforgettable romantic Italian experience.

4. Adriatic highway E65 – Rijeka to Dubrovnik, Croatia

One of the most important roads in Croatia and Adriatic region that measure 535 km in total,runs through the whole Croatia from Rijeka to Dubrovnik. It offers panoramic views and is a great idea for a road trip. You can visit many major and most important coastal Croatian cities along the ways (do not miss Split or Zadar) or hop on the islands, such as Krk or Rab which are close to the shore.

5. Asinara road – Sassari, Sardegna

This scenic road is located on a peninsula in Asinara National Park on the northeast of Sardinia. It is a 21 km concrete path that flows through a protected landscape of shrubs and stones. The road crosses smaller villages but most of it passes through a wild landscape in the immediate closeness of the sea. There are also countless places to relax at the seaside and just enjoy the view.

6. Portofino Strada Provinciale 227 – Genoa, Italy

This beautiful coastal road is only 12 kilometres long but offers beautiful vistas, colourful places all the way from Portofino port to Rapallo. The road lies a few meters away from the sea and crosses few cities, therefore it offers a pleasant ride through the old streets of the cities.

7. D512 state road – Croatia

It represents a really beautiful section of the Adriatic Highway for a leisure drive that starts in Makarska and leads to Ravče. It measures 28 kilometres and goes through the shrubby landscape presenting breathtaking views of the peaks and valleys.


8. D102 road – Krk, Croatia

This scenic road runs through the whole island of Krk and measures almost 50 kilometres. The maincoast and Krk island are connected with a renewed bridge and the road continues through the island where you can stop on numerous picturesque beaches and lively summer towns.

9. Karavomylos Road – Agia Effimia, Greece

The road is located right on the coast and it is 7 km long. It runsfrom Karavamylos to Agia Effimia. A quiet, sparsely populated landscape is ideal for a short trip searching forsmall beaches offering ideal relax by the sea.

10. Seitan Limania beach – Cyprus

A short and only 3 km long road in Cyprus is full of adrenaline, as it goes along a steep cliff above the sea. The ride is breathtaking, as the road is surrounded by rocks and stones. This road trip has to be on yout bucket list while driving around Cypruns, since it ends on a beautiful beach.

11. Cap Corse road – Corsica, France

The spectacular coastal scenic road in Corsica is wide enough for a carefree ride, but nevertheless, it offers exciting views under the cliffs. It's 43 km are perfect for a one-day trip, offering the possibility of swimming in the sea and making beautiful photos.

12. Er 101 – Madeira, Portugal

Maybe the most interesting one-way road in the world is located just above the sea and under high cliffs. Because the road is narrow, it is impossible to meet another vehicle, but fortunately the road measures only 3 kilometers. It represents an excellent location for taking a photo for your Instagram while driving through the tunnel and sharp curves that are washed by strong sea waves.

13. Estoril Coast Drive – Lisbon, Algarve, Portugal

Estoril Coast Drive is one of the top scenic and popular drives in Portugal. The roadconnects Sintra and Lisbon and all major midpoints along the Atlantic coast. This 70 km road offers you to visit towns with an exceptional historical heritage, windy sandy beaches and mostly many excellent surfing spots.

14. D81 - Calanches de Piana, Corsica, France

Corsica is surely a stunning Mediterranean island, on which an 11 kilometres long road runs through the spiked rocky mountains, between narrow passages and offers beautiful views. It starts in Les Oliviers and ends in Piana.

15. Gorges du Dades – Marrakech, Morocco
