Prague has been gathering its lovely charm for over a thousand years. Towards the end of November drive your car hire in Prague and watch as the snow begins to cover the beautifully decorated cobbled streets. Prague makes it easy for you to navigate your way from one Christmas market to another one, saving you enough time to visit the most famous sights and to immerse yourself in the Czech holiday traditions. Christmas market at Old Town Square

Are you getting excited and truly merry as Christmas time is approaching? If your answer is yes, then you are in luck! Christmas markets in Prague start before December. Talk about Christmas came early!

Christmas market at Old Town Square is in the heart of Prague, and it spreads its Christmas spirit from Jan Hus Memorial to the amazing Astronomical clock. This means you can tick off two sights of your bucket list in Prague right off. That was easy, right?

This Christmas market in Prague is the largest and usually the most crowded one. But don’t let the crowd stop you from visiting it as this market was voted one of the best in the whole wide world. The Christmas market focal point is the majestic Christmas tree that sparkles with thousands, and thousands of lights. Around the tree they set up a place where they hold open-air Christmas concerts, making your experience a bit jollier. For children, you will find many organized workshops and special events. There is even a stable with live farm animals, which they can pet!

At the beautifully decorated stalls, you will find traditional handmade items and delicious pastries, which you simply must try! In the previous years, we have tried a couple of pastries and we strongly recommend you try the freshly made vanilla biscuits and the so-called “vánočka”, which is a tasty pleated leaved pastry/cake. Old Town Square is the oldest square in the historic city centre, which is surrounded by many great restaurants, cafes, bars and designer shops.

Christmas time is often associated with mulled wine, but not everyone is a fan of it, so listen up beer lovers as this one is for you. Prague is very well known for its great beers; they even have a beer museum you can visit and make your bottle of beer. Cheers to that, right?

Christmas market at Prague Castle

You can find this Christmas market at St. George’s Square behind the walls of Prague Castle, which was built in the 9th century. Just imagine how many Christmas markets have already been hosted there!

Drive your car hire in Prague to the Christmas market at Prague Castle, which offers its visitors a unique setting. At the Christmas market, you can find over 70 carefully selected vendors which sell their high-quality goods. Get the perfect gift for your family. Choose from handmade Christmas tree ornaments from glass, embroidered lace, wooden toys and so much more. We believe you won’t leave this market empty-handed. Enjoy some amazing foods and drinks while gazing upon the magnificent views of Prague and Vltava river from the castle.

Make sure you are dressed for the winter part! There is a security check-up upon entry, which might take a while and we wouldn’t want you to catch a cold. When your entry gets granted make sure to warm up a bit with a hot cup of tea!

Christmas market at Peace square

Want to celebrate the holiday season like the locals? Christmas market at Peace square is probably the best place where you can experience authentic Christmas traditions. You will not see many tourists here, as it is more popular between the locals. Hint: this market is also one of the first ones to pop up in the city, making it perfect if you are visiting the city before December.

The Christmas market is set up in front of the Church of St. Ludmila. Drive your car hire in Prague towards the South-eastern area of Prague. You can stroll around over 60 wooden stalls, where you can find and choose from a variety of traditional Christmas items, like Advent calendars, hand made candles with the most pleasant smells you can think of, ornaments made out of glass or wood and much, much, more.

Don’t miss out on typical Czech food at this Christmas market in Prague. Try the roasted ham, delicious barbecues sausage or salty potato pancakes. If you have more of a sweet tooth you simply must try the traditional Christmas cookies! We are getting hungry just by thinking about all the tasty delights you will find in Prague this holiday season.

Christmas market in Wenceslas square

Wenceslas square is one of the main city squares and during the holidays it hosts one of the most popular Christmas markets in Prague. Wenceslas square is also known to as the shopping area of Prague making it perfect if you need to do some last-minute Christmas shopping while enjoying your Czech holiday getaway.

Wander around the many wooden chalet stalls and enjoy the lively atmosphere. At the Wenceslas square, you will find a huge Christmas tree and even a live Nativity scene with real animals! Treat yourself to one of many delicious Christmas treats, like gingerbread cookies and a special version of hot honey wine.

If you will be in town around Christmas, you will be in for a treat as something will smell a bit fishy! There will be several water tanks on the street where you will be able to purchase live carp fish. Don’t be too shocked and say we didn’t warn you. The locals buy live carp fish for Christmas dinners and feasts – this is an old Czech tradition.

Drive your car hire in Prague around the Wenceslas Square and visit one of many museums that are spread around this tourist area. We recommend visiting Mucha Museum where you will find the amazing posters of Alphonse Mucha - well known Czech painter, the Cold War Museum, Museum of Senses, National museum and the Apple Museum - for all iOS fans.

Christmas market at Republic square

Christmas market at Republic square is slightly smaller than the other ones we have listed in this article. But that does not mean it lacks any Christmas spirit!

Drive your car hire in Prague from Wenceslas square to Republic square and visit the Christmas market there. This market is also close to the Old Town Square, making it the perfect starting point if you are planning on doing some Christmas market hopping!

If you are on a budget then you must visit this Christmas market in Prague, as the prices here are not as high as elsewhere. Christmas market at Republic square is known as the place with the best food. The locals like to stop by and grab some food and drinks before heading towards the Old Town Square. We love to stop by this market and indulge in the traditional “Trdelník”, which is a spit cake made from battered dough which is slowly baked in rotation over open fire. After that, they fill it out with various toppings. The most popular is ice cream, even during the cold winter days.

If you are driving car hire in Prague with your significant other then you have to this Christmas market in Prague. They offer the traditional mistletoe and you know what that means if you and your romantic partner find yourselves underneath it. You can thank us later *wink wink*.
